To fulfill His good purpose

"Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." - Philippians 2:12-13

Purpose. The dictionary defines purpose as "the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists". Paul reminds the church in Philippi that God is the one who works in them (and us) to bring about "His good purpose" (v. 13). Fulfilling God's purpose is about recognizing where God is leading and reordering our steps to follow that path.

God's purpose is good. This is a simple statement with huge implications for our life. God desires us to bring about His good purpose. As we work out our salvation (a process commonly referred to as sanctification), we are bringing about God's purpose. We are saved for more than heaven; God calls us to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth.

Fulfill God's purpose. There is a temptation to think that the work that we do comes from our own strength. Our world favors the strong and the powerful, but the kingdom of God is not like the systems of our world. Meekness is our strength, peacemaking is our path, and mercy is our mission.

This series is all about finding where God is working and following Him. We join God in the work that He is doing and take steps to fulfill His purpose. Each day is a new opportunity to work out our salvation and to join God to fulfill His purpose.
