The Spirit of Truth
“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future.” John 16:13
Over the last month, you have (hopefully) memorized and meditated on verses about Jesus being the true vine, not trusting in chariots and horses, loving God with all that we are, and now a verse about the Holy Spirit guiding your life.
This verse sits in the middle of a passage where Jesus is sharing with His disciples about the future events that would soon take place. He tells them of the coming of the Holy Spirit, but He also reminds them that they will soon face difficult trials and hardships. The Holy Spirit is described in the bible as our Comforter, Counselor, Intercessor, and (as in this memory verse) the Spirit of Truth.
Guide you into all truth
Are you frustrated today? Confused about your next steps? The Spirit of Truth is here to offer guidance. Worried about the future? Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will tell you about the future. The Holy Spirit is not a fortune teller or a magic 8-ball. Rather, the Holy Spirit is a guide that will reveal our next steps as we walk in faith.
Spend time this week memorizing and meditating on this verse. It is a great reminder that Jesus has prepared a way for us, just as he did for His disciples.
